REACTIVE INTEGRATION
Many dogs have difficulty navigating their way in life and rely on us, the owners, trainers, and behavior consultants to give them the skills to cope and to improve their quality of life. Whether your own dog, a foster dog in rescue, or a clients dog that you are trying to help is more ‘introverted’ and acts fearful, shy or withdrawn, or is more ‘extroverted’ and reacts with barking, lunging, or out and out aggression, there are many techniques out there to help. Knowing which one works best for the situation and the dog and how to implement them and integrate them into your behavior modification plan can be a challenge.

Come join Karen Deeds, Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (IAABC) to help you learn how to help your dog! There are many variables that will help to determine the success of training and behavior modification; severity, predictability, environment, and a number of human factors are just some variables that will be analyzed. Creating a behavior modification plan must include management along with the integration of science based behavior modification techniques. Power point, video and working with the dogs will be utilized during the seminar.

Agenda:
Friday evening 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM:
Do you know what a Reactive dog IS? What may cause it? The signs BEFORE your dog reacts? Understanding canine body language and how stress affects dogs will be detailed using videos, photos and lecture with power point. Come explore learning theory and the concepts of classical and operant conditioning and how to apply them in dog training. We will discuss different ways to ‘get’ behavior as well as the 4 stages of learning. If we can teach a giraffe to willingly stand still for a blood draw, we can train dogs without aversive or forceful techniques! This session would be mandatory for those attending the weekend workshop but it would also be helpful for anyone wanting to learn more about reactivity and training like rescue groups, pet owners, vet techs, veterinarians, groomers, and trainers new to the positive reinforcement concept.

Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Using clean mechanics along with the concept of Location Specific Markers to facilitate strategic placement of the reinforcement and manipulate arousal will help the dog/human communication process. Understanding the many variables that help to determine the best option for a dog with reactivity/aggression issues as well as the success of training and behavior modification will be outlined. Foundation skills; Relaxation, Play, Mental Stimulation, Impulse Control, Creating Alternative Behaviors, Emergency protocols; Thresholds; and the introduction to various behavior modification protocols will be covered.

Sunday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Adding to the previous day of training we will introduce Pattern Games and put the pieces together.
